" ... " [MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PLAYDEAD'S INSIDE]
- Ed is born in Norway on July 7th. From a young age, his father - Ed has always had sleeping issues, but his parents hoped it would sort itself out once he started school. It did not, and he is diagnosed with insomnia. His parents never find a solution; it seems to get better and worse at random. He sometimes has trouble retaining information due to his tiredness, but generally does well in school despite this. - A few weeks before the game starts, an organization (Ed never learns their name) begins taking away those who don't agree with their goal (whatever that is.) Everyone is in a panic; boarding up their homes or trying to leave Norway. Those who try to leave disappear in the worst way, so Ed's parents settle for hiding out at home. - A group from the organization breaks into their home late in the night while Ed's parents sleep. Ed is awake and he runs. Ed survives on his own for about a week or so, scavenging food from now-empty homes and stores, and even stealing rations from the organization occasionally. He observes them from a distance, learning about their machines and how they collect people. - Ed begins to feel the need to go... somewhere. The blob/huddle is responsible for this. It's a dull thrum at first, but Ed sees no reason not to follow his heart. He starts heading that direction. - The game starts. - Ed is drowned by one of the girls in the water. He technically dies at this point, and he's pretty zombie mode from here until the end of the game; his only focus is getting to the huddle. - The huddle absorbs Ed and he is unconscious inside of it. It may or may not spit him out post-game. If played from this point, his memories after the drowning are extremely hazy. He'll be pretty confused and feel incomplete, because he knows he was doing something, going somewhere and it was extremely important to him. Plus, what happened to his clothes? He'll remember everything eventually though. |

" ... "
- Ed has become less receptive to other people since the events of the game started, actually becoming rather shy compared to his previously outgoing attitude.
- Probably learned from his parents, Ed has a tendency to be bossy, often telling others what to do rather than asking for cooperation. He has no idea why this would upset anyone, nor is he actually trying to be rude. - Ed has learned to be vigilant and wary of adults due to their possible affiliation with the organization, but otherwise he's very trusting of others. - Ed is quite adventurous and will try just about anything once or even twice. - He trusts his own judgement and rarely feels the need to consult others before making decisions. - Ed is a very very determined person. If he wants to disable all those engines, whether they're on the ceiling or 500ft underwater, he is going to disable them. If he wants you to pick him up, god help you he is not going to stop following you around and telling you to pick him up. (Seriously don't ever carry him he will never want to be put back down.) - Ed is rarely held back by fear and he has learned how to function despite constantly fearing for his life. He's very good at thinking on his feet, and his implusiveness is just as likely to save his life as it is to put him in a rough situation. - He is very moralistic, although his morals are sometimes... kind of odd, usually because he doesn't know any better. |

ATHLETIC Having done gymnastics for a few years, Ed is pretty flexible, and probably a little stronger than you'd expect given his build. He also has some pretty killer reaction time. Nothing superhuman, just more athletic than your average nine year old. UNDERWATER BREATHING After a cutscene a little after mid-game, Ed gains the ability to breathe underwater. This is canonically breathing water instead of not needing to breathe at all, as Ed can still be strangled to death after receiving it. |
